Paula Kuehl has been painting since 1981 when she started taking lessons at the Studio in the Woods in Wauconda, Illinois, where she studied with Bonnie Anderson for 11 years. She has also studied portrait painting with Harley Brown and life drawing with William Whittaker at the Scottsdale Artists School; Scottsdale, Arizona. She has taken classes from Gerald Merfeld, Virginia Rodecker, Thomas Trausch, David Hettinger, Jim Pollard, Ted Goerschner, Joe Abbresicia, Vern Stake, John Naylor and Scott Burdick.

In 2015, her work was accepted in the Regional Survey of Art 11, The Next Picture Show, Dixon, IL; Light and Dark Exhibition, The Next Picture Show, Dixon, IL and the Southeastern Pastel Society 2015 Members Juried Exhibition, Gainesville, GA.

In 2014, her work was accepted in the Regional Survey of Art 9, The Next Picture Show, Dixon, IL where she received Best of Show for her entry; the 27th Cobb Arts Alliance National Juried Exhibition, Mableton, GA; World of Art, Mableton, GA; 2014 Northwest Pastel Society Members Exhibition, Richland, WA; Farms and Barns, The Next Picture Show, Dixon, IL; Art Centre 2014, Elk Grove Village, IL, where she received an Award of Excellence; Pastel Society of north Florida 13th Biennial National Juried Exhibition, Niceille, Fl; Southeastern Pastel Society On-Line Exhibition and Alabama Pastel Society On-Line Exhibition.

In 2013, her work was accepted in the Regional Survey of Art 8, The Next Picture Show, Dixon, IL; World of Art 2013, Mableton, Ga; the 25th Coastal National Juried Exhibit, St. Simons Island, GA; South Cobb Arts Alliance National Juried Exhibition, Mableton, Ga; Raw and Cooked, The Next Picture Show, Dixon, IL; "You Have the Magic Dust", Alabama Pastel Society Members Exhibition, Hoover, AL where she received 2nd place award; "It's Pastel!" 2013, Pastel Society of New Hampshire 5th Annual National Juried Show; Degas Pastel Society 18th Juried Membership Exhibition, Laurel, MS; Farms and Barns Juried Exhibition, The Next Picture Show, Dixon, IL; Art Centre 2013, Elk Grove Village, IL; Reflections in Pastel, Arkansas Pastel Society 5th National Exhibition, Little Rock, Arkansas and Regional Juried Exhibition 10, Freeport Art Museum, Freeport IL.

Prior to 2013, her work has been accepted, and won awards, in many national shows.

Her work has won many awards over the years. Some of which are: Best of Pastel at the Grand Detour Art Fair, Spetember 2017, Best of Show at the Cary Art Fair; an Award of Excellence at Art Centre 2001, Elk Grove Village; President’s Award at the Northwest Pastel Society’s Members Show; Third Place at the Open Door to Autumn Art, Door County, Wisconsin; the Juror’s Choice Award at Winter Thaw 2003, Decatur, Illinois; the Juror’s Choice Award, The World of Art, Mableton, GA; Award of Merit at the Degas Pastel Society’s 15th Membership Exhibition; an Honorable Mention at the Winter Solstice Exhibition in Dixon, IL; an Award of Excellence and a Purchase Award at Art Centre 2009, Elk Grove Village, IL; the Art Spectrum/Armadello Art & Craft Award at “It’s Pastel”, Pastel Society of New Hampshire National Juried Show 2010; a merit award at the “You Have the Magic Dust” Exhibition, Hoover, AL and an award of excellence and a purchase award at Art Centre 2011, Elk Grove Village, IL; 2nd place at "You have the Magic Dust", Alabama Pastel Society Exhibition, Hoover, AL; Best of Show, Regional Survey of Art 9, The Next Picture Show, Dixon, IL and an Award of Excellence at Art Centre 2014, Elk Grove Village, IL. In May of 2012, she became a Member of Excellence of the Southeastern Pastel Society.
